Prominent Chinese historian's talk at Ohio University is rescheduled for Friday
Professor Wang Gungwu, one of the world's top authorities on Chinese history, will present a public lecture, "Systems and Cultures: A Perspective on Recent Chinese History," at 4 p.m. Friday, May 7, in the Baker University Center 1804 Lounge. The talk is free and open to the public.
His talk was originally scheduled for Thursday, May 6, but has been rescheduled because of travel delays.
In addition to his pioneering early work on the structures of power in imperial China, Professor Wang's extensive scholarship on Chinese migration and overseas communities has defined the field of Chinese diasporic studies. His recent books include "The Chinese Overseas: From Earthbound China to the Quest for Autonomy"and "Reform, Legitimacy, and Dilemmas: China's Politics and Society."
Professor Wang is currently the director of the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore. From 1986 to 1995, he served as president of the University of Hong Kong.
Through graduate training, research, scholarship and an active series of sponsored events, Ohio University's Contemporary History Institute provides historically grounded analysis of contemporary world affairs at both the national and international levels.
