Faculty Learning Community survey on Appalachia
In the fall of 2003 a call went out across the University for faculty members who were interested in taking part in Faculty Learning Communities. These cross-disciplinary groups of about 8 members meet together regularly to share ideas, engage in a curriculum of discovery focused on teaching and learning and participate in activities designed to foster social, intellectual and reflective discussion. One of these Faculty Learning Communities is focusing on teaching and learning in and about Appalachia. These faculty members have been meeting and trying to better understand concerns about Appalachia, consider what this means to Ohio University and identify future directions.
The Faculty Learning Community has developed a survey to gather information about work pertinent to teaching and learning in and about Appalachia. Currently, no University repository exists where persons can find what others are doing as far as teaching, research, scholarly activities, service learning or community work related to Appalachia. This survey is an initial attempt to collect information from faculty, administrators, students, community persons and interested others about what has been done and is being planned related to Appalachian studies and topics.
If you have any interest in Appalachia, we hope that you will take time to complete the questionnaire and assist the Faculty Learning Community in gathering information. If you have questions or want to discuss any topic related to Appalachia, please contact the group's facilitator, Sharon Denham at 593-4499 or denham@ohio.edu or feel free to contact any of the other group members. Please take a look at the group's Web site to learn more about the group members and the group's concerns.
The survey can be accessed here.
We hope that you will complete the survey on or before May 17, 2004. Your time and effort will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
