ATHENS, Ohio (April 26, 2004) -- Opening Spring Quarter 2004, The Ohio University School of Theater presents "The Gods Are Not To Blame." Written by one of Nigeria's leading playwrights, Ola Rotimi, this classic of African theater adapts the Oedipus myth and skillfully transplants it in Nigerian soil. Addressing contemporary issues of Africa and the world, the play follows King Odewale's progress toward the knowledge that will restore his kingdom.
School of Theater International Studies Professor, Esiaba Irobi, directs this production sponsored by the Ohio University African Studies Department.
"The Gods Are Not To Blame" runs April 28 through May 1 and May 5 through 8 in the Forum Theater, located in the RTV Building.
General admission for the production is $10 and $8 for students and seniors.
