  • Six first-year members of the Ohio University Forensics Speech and Debate Team beat out those from 40 other teams to win the Novice National Forensics Championship held at the University of West Florida. In its 26th year, the tournament sponsors a national competition for those students in their first year of collegiate forensics.

  • President Roderick J. McDavis approved new Ohio University policy 12.002, which provides guidelines for awarding graduate degrees posthumously on March 6.
     
  • TRiO Day reception rescheduled 3/20/2008

  • Ohio University's TRiO Day reception has been rescheduled. The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Multicultural Center's Multipurpose Room in Baker University Center 219.
     
  • Comments accepted for accreditation process 3/20/2008

  • The public is invited to submit comments about Ohio University to The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in advance of the regional accrediting agency's periodic evaluation of the university. All comments must be received by March 24.

  • Ohio's Bubba Walther, Leon Williams and Jerome Tillman all posted double-doubles to lead the Bobcats to an 80-74 victory over Brown in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational Tuesday night in Athens. Ohio improved to 20-12 overall and will advance to Monday's second round.

  • A proposed medical facility that would house Student Health and Counseling Services and University Medical Associates took another step forward Monday when an Ohio University Board of Trustees committee met to review the draft financial forecast and business plan.
     
  • Wrestler Lindsey set to compete at NCAA's [ohiobobcats.com] 3/18/2008

  • Germane Lindsey will head to the NCAA National Wrestling Tournament in St. Louis today where he will represent the Bobcats at 141 pounds. Lindsey qualified for nationals after taking third place at the MAC Championships on March 8. He is just one of three true freshmen wrestlers to qualify at 141 pounds for the national tournament this year.

  • The Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University has appointed Billy J. "B.J." Galloway as chair of the Department of Aviation.

  • Rathindra Bose has been named Ohio University's new vice president for research and creative activity and dean of the graduate college. He will begin work July 1.
     
  • Poll: More view government as secretive 3/17/2008

  • Three-quarters of Americans consider the federal government secretive, and nearly nine in 10 say a candidate's position on open government is important to them in deciding whom to vote for in a presidential or congressional race. That's the finding of a national survey of 1,012 randomly selected adults by Ohio University's Scripps Survey Research Center.

  • Folks interested in venturing into their Irish roots on this St. Patrick's Day can merely step into Alden Library for a peek at the Book of Kells. According to art historian Charles Buchanan, who acquired a high-quality copy of the book for Ohio University, the Book of Kells is one of the finest examples of illuminated manuscripts in existence.

  • Ohio Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced Monday morning that Ryan Theis will become the next Ohio volleyball head coach. Theis comes to Ohio with a high-powered offensive attack and a reputation as an excellent recruiter.

  • Picture 3,622,240 standard lightbulbs. Know how much electricity they consume in an hour? 272 megawatts. Now erase that. This year, that's what students on the Athens campus did by conserving energy as part of the Office of Sustainability's Residence Challenge.
