  • Ohio University names Benjamin Ogles dean of College of Arts and Sciences 3/31/2006

  • Benjamin M. Ogles, Ph.D., has been named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University, effective April 3, 2006, President Roderick J. McDavis announced today. Ogles was named interim dean of the college in May 2005.
     
  • Library Friends reception honors authors and performers 3/30/2006

  • The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University are sponsoring the 16th annual reception for Ohio University Faculty and Staff Authors and Performers at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 5. The program will be held in the Class of 1951 Lounge on the fourth floor of Alden Library.
     
  • Global teacher educators convene at Ohio University in the 'Year of Study Abroad' 3/30/2006

  • Educators from all over the world will converge in Athens April 5-8 for the annual Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST) conference. Ohio University's College of Education is one of 15 member institutions here in the United States that arrange for undergraduates to spend a quarter student teaching in Ecuador, Greece, New Zealand, or one of the other 16 COST host countries.

  • Ohio University Without Boundaries has taken the leap into "serious" game development. OUWB partnered with Ohio University's Game Research and Immersive Design Lab to offer training sessions on an innovative tool that helps campus users develop serious games - those that are created for training or educational purposes. The two training sessions took place March 16-17 and attracted innovators from all reaches of the Ohio University campus.
     
  • Semi-formal Altruism Gallery Show to benefit Athens High School's art program 3/29/2006

  • Students of Ohio University's School of Visual Communication, School of Art and School of Film are teaming up to show off their unique skills and creativity and raise money for Athens High School's budget-constrained art department. The semi-formal gallery show is the first to combine undergraduate and graduate artwork from the three schools and will take place Saturday, April 1, in Baker Ballroom from 7 to 11 p.m.

As is portrayed in his latest mural featured in the basement of Baker University Center, every fold in his figure's clothing shows defined creasing and reflection of light.

  • The Office of Student Activities proudly presented the second "OU Idol" competition on Saturday, March 4, to a crowd of 450 excited fans. Dedrick Bonner was announced as the winner of the contest receiving the grand prize award of one quarter of Ohio University in-state tuition valued at $2,745. Following the announcement and a review of the voting, Ohio University freshman Nathan Ramos was also declared winner.

  • A group of Ohio University students, in collaboration with Campus Crusade for Christ, traveled to New Orleans during Christmas break to help out the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The leaders of the group were David White and Alissa Bramsen who were both greatly affected by the levels of devastation that were still prevalent three months after the disaster.
     
  • Beyond Rosie the Riveter 3/3/2006

  • "Scholars argue that women, more than any other group, experienced change during World War II," says Katherine Jellison, associate professor of history. "Six point five million women entered the paid civilian workforce, often with so-called men's jobs. This also marks the first permanent presence of women in the U.S. military." To recognize their efforts, Jellison will moderate a panel next week called "Beyond Rosie the Riveter: Women Tell Their Stories of World War II." The panel will be held Thursday, March 9.
