  • Event will benefit historic costume collection 1/31/2006

  • Athens residents can enjoy an evening of fine food and fashion while helping a good cause by attending a benefit gala for Ohio University's Mary C. Doxsee Historic Costume and Textile Collection on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Margaret M. Walter Hall rotunda from 6 to 10 p.m.
     
  • College of Business connects students from the start 1/31/2006

  • That is, until some students in the college's Corporate Leadership Program proposed and piloted the College of Business Freshman Engagement Program in 2002. Since then, the program, coordinated by Assistant Dean for Student Services Mike Bila, has evolved. It now includes a required BA 100 course, 55 upper-class business students trained as peer mentors and – new this year – faculty mentorship.
     
  • New Zealand trip offers students hands-on field research 1/31/2006

  • While most Ohio University students worked, spent time with their families and watched snowflakes fall over winter break, eight students and two program advisers traveled to sunny New Zealand as part of the Global Studies Program in island biology, spending three weeks traveling, completing field research and sightseeing.
     
  • Ohio Up Close gives admitted students in-depth look at Ohio University 1/27/2006

  • Ohio University's Ohio Up Close program is offering high school seniors admitted for fall quarter 2006 an opportunity to look at Ohio University one more time before making a final decision on their college choice. The program will be held Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 and March 10.
     
  • African American Presence in the Ohio River Valley workshop set for Jan. 28 1/27/2006

  • The Department of African American Studies and the Department of Social Work is hosting the second of three oral history workshops on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Grover Center, room E205. The free workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the public is welcome.
     
  • Synchronized Swimming Club hosts first meet 1/27/2006

  • With sparkling swimsuits, pointed toes, splashing water and smiles, synchronized swimmers literally dance in water. The Ohio University Competitive Synchronized Swim Team will make a splash hosting their first-ever meet at the Aquatic Center, Sunday, Jan. 29.
     
  • Bigger and better RecycleMania 2006 begins Jan. 29 1/27/2006

  • The sixth annual RecycleMania contest begins on Sunday, Jan. 29, with more than 90 schools competing. The competition ends Saturday, April 8. The winners will be announced the following week.

  • The Ohio University club hockey team will induct two former players and a former faculty adviser into its Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 28, as part of the Ohio Hockey Alumni Weekend.
     
  • Lifehouse brings its winter tour to Athens 1/25/2006

  • Lifehouse's tour bus will be making a stop in Athens on Friday, Jan. 27 for a show presented by the University Program Council. The band will perform hits from its most recent album, Lifehouse, as well as classics such as the number one hit "Hanging by a Moment."
     
  • Ohio University Eastern Campus freshmen eligible to receive one free class 1/25/2006

  • The Jump Start program offers one tuition-free class to incoming freshman at the Ohio University Eastern Campus during the Summer Quarter of 2006. Only incoming freshmen at Ohio University Eastern will be eligible for this program. By taking advantage of the Jump Start program, incoming freshmen can earn up to 5 credit hours towards their degree, free, at no additional cost
     
  • The Trocks dance into Athens 1/25/2006

  • Dancing the fine line between high art and high camp, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo will perform at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m. The hilarious all-male ballet company combines technical skill and comic sensibility to create a buoyant and fun-filled evening for audiences of all ages.
     
  • Fulbright awards take Fine Arts faculty around the world 1/24/2006

  • Adam Knee and Ursula Belden are among the nine Fulbright award winners from Ohio University this year. In addition to the Ohio University faculty going abroad, the School of Theater is host to Fulbright award winner Miodrag Tabacki.
     
  • Playwright Charles Smith receives Joyce Foundation Award 1/24/2006

  • The Joyce Foundation has awarded a $50,000 Joyce Award grant to the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) to support the commission of a new play by Ohio University Professor of Playwriting Charles Smith.
     
  • University director named president of state organization 1/24/2006

  • Gretchen Stephens, director of Ohio University's Office of University Events, was recently named president of the board of directors for the Ohio Arts Presenters Network (OAPN).  
     
  • College of Business sends care packages to troops 1/23/2006

  • While it is not possible to take away the pain of separation that soldiers feel for their friends and family, this winter quarter the College of Business is lifting spirits by sending care packages to Ohio University's students, employees and alumni who have been called to active duty.

  • Students, alumni, and friends of Ohio University Eastern are invited to come and cheer for the Ohio University Bobcats in their game against Miami University at Athens, Ohio, on Sunday, Jan. 29.
     
  • Ohio University acquires Wyatt Collection 1/20/2006

  • Ohio University has recently acquired the private library collection of Dr. David Wyatt, a retired professor of Southeast Asian History from Cornell University. An extensive and unique collection, consisting of approximately 15,000 volumes on Southeast Asia, the Wyatt collection is one of the largest private collections ever acquired by Ohio University's Alden Library.
     
  • Singer Lyle Lovett to perform at Ohio University 1/19/2006

  • Country singer and songwriter Lyle Lovett and his Large Band will perform at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium in Athens on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The multi-genre artist mixes elements of folk, country, blues and rock to create a signature style.

  • Ohio University-Zanesville is offering a business course entitled "Entrepreneurship - Starting and Growing a Business" Feb. 4 and 25.
     
  • Alum's first feature film to be screened at national Slamdance Film Festival 1/19/2006

  • Ohio University graduate and filmmaker Todd Rohal’s first feature film will make its public screening debut at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival this month. "The Guatemalan Handshake" is set to screen Jan. 21, 22 and 24 in Park City, Utah, as a narrative competition feature.

  • Ohio University has named William R. Decatur the vice president for finance and administration, chief financial officer and treasurer, effective March 20, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis announced today. He will serve as a consultant for Ohio University between Jan. 17 and March 17.

  • A recent $100,000 gift to Ohio University from Stanley Williams, DDS, of Sarasota, Fla., will pay tribute to retired Professor of Business Kahandas Nandola and Professor of Economics Rajindar Koshal - faculty who influenced Williams while he worked toward an Executive MBA (EMBA) at Ohio in 1979.
