"Walk the Walk" for mental health on Nov. 7
The Gathering Place and NAMI Athens are hosting the 10th annual "Walk the Walk" for Mental Health Awareness and Support beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The walk will begin at the Athens County Courthouse steps, where Sen. Jimmy Stewart, Rep. Debbie Phillips and Mayor Paul Wiehl will speak. Following the rally, the 8K walk will wind through town with a stop at the Gathering Place before ending at the Appalachian Behavioral Health Care Center for a celebration feast.
The event aims to reduce stigma and raise awareness for mental illness, as well as raise funds for the Gathering Place and NAMI Athens. The walk is free to join. Donations are encouraged, but not required. Anyone interested in participating or volunteering can pick up information packets at the Gathering Place, which is located at 7 North Congress St. in Athens, Ohio. Details
