- Publications
- DAVID A. DRABOLD, physics and astronomy, wrote "Ab initiosimulation of high-pressure phases of GaAs" in Physical Review B, Vol. 66, July 2002. DRABOLD, Serge Nakmanson and Normand Mousseau co-wrote a comment on "Boson peak in amorphous silicon: A numerical study" in the Physical Review B, Vol. 66, August 2002.
- LOWELL GALLAWAY and RICHARD VEDDER, economics, co-wrote "The Economic Effects of Labor Unions Revisited" in the Journal of Labor Research, Vol. 23, Fall 2002; "The Minimum Wage and Poverty among Full-Time Workers" in the Journal of Labor Research, Vol. 23, Fall 2002; and "The Impact of Transfer Payments on Economic Growth: John Stuart Mill versus Ludwig von Mises" in The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, Vol. 5 No. 1, Spring 2002.
- Appointments
- LISA S. DAEL, Division of Lifelong Learning, Community and Professional Programs, was appointed to serve on The Learning Resources Network (LERN) University Council. LERN is an international association of lifelong learning programming, offering information and resources to providers of continuing education programs.
- Recognitions
- WANDA SHERIDAN, interpersonal communication, was named Employee of the Quarter for spring quarter 2002 in the College of Communication. SHERIDAN has been an employee for more than 17 years, serving as secretary, senior secretary and administrative coordinator in the past 15 years. In 1997-98 she served as chair of Classified Senate and also chaired the Ohio Staff Council for Higher Education in 1999-2000. She received $500 and a certificate at the college's spring faculty meeting. SHERIDAN was nominated by Greg Shepherd, director of the School of Interpersonal Communication.
- KENNETH J. HEINEMAN, history, served as a peer reviewer in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Department of Education's 2002 "Teaching American History Grant Program," which awarded $100 million to K-12 schools to improve the instruction of U.S. history.
- SHEIDA SHIRVANI, interpersonal communications -- Zanesville Campus, received the Speech Communication Association of Ohio's Distinguished Teacher award. She will be honored at the SCAO annual conference in October.
- Presentations
- SHEIDA SHIRVANI, interpersonal communications -- Zanesville Campus, presented "Reconciliation Through Communication: Gender In Cross-Cultural Settings" at the International Communication Association 52nd Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea, summer 2002. The presentation was co-written by Farah Shadcheher of The Ohio State University. SHIRVANI, Cindy Carter of Cardiff University and Carolyn Byerly of the University of Maryland, co-wrote and presented "Media Association Project," a panel addressing issues of gender inequality in the academy, at the International Communication Association's 52nd Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea, summer 2002. Other co-authors included Paige Edly of Bowling Green State University, Radha Hegde of New York University, KAREN RIGGS of Ohio University and Karen Ross of Coventry University, Conventry, United Kingdom.
