ATHENS, Ohio -- Interested in learning how to design or re-design a course that emphasizes Socratic questioning in all of its dimensions? Dr. Richard Paul will teach you how in this critical thinking workshop on Dec. 2 and 3 in the Baker Center Ballroom. "Bringing Critical Thinking into the Classroom through Socratic Questioning" is third in a series of six, but it is not necessary to have attended other workshops in order to benefit from this one.
Paul explains the difficulties surrounding Socratic questioning and how you can overcome them by helping your students to discover a high level of mastery of content as well as a solid foundation for transferable skills for lifelong learning.
You are able to choose from one of four mini-workshops:
- Applied Sciences and the Professions: Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to Noon
- Humanities and the Fine Arts: Dec. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m.
- Natural Sciences and Mathematics: Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to Noon
- Social Sciences: Dec. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.
While the mini-workshops are tailored to specific disciplines, you are welcome to attend any session. You are welcome to bring information about your projects and courses with you.

About the Speaker:
As Director of Research of the Center for Critical Thinking and Chair of the National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking, Richard Paul is an internationally recognized authority on critical thinking, with seven books and over 100 articles on the subject.
Paul is widely known for his seminal role in the development of the field of critical thinking. He is the founder of the Center for Critical Thinking (1980), the National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking (1987), and most recently, the National Academy on Critical Thinking (1995-2000). He also organized and chaired or co-chaired with Linda Elder the last 20 International Conferences on Critical Thinking.
