Video board heightens entertainment value at Bobcat football games

ATHENS, Ohio (Aug. 27, 2003) -- A state-of-the-art video wall will further increase the entertainment value for fans at Ohio University football games this year, beginning with Thursday's season opener against Southeast Missouri State. Football fans can keep up with the game action through instant replays of exciting plays, updated game statistics and scores from games around the nation. Others will enjoy the lively animation and all fans may find themselves on the big screen through the "fan cam."

The video wall was made possible by a pouring rights agreement between the university and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Athens. It is part of a 10-year, $300,000 commitment Pepsi has made to fund a leadership scholarship program and provide five scoreboards and three video walls at athletic venues on campus.

"The university has worked with two world-class vendors to create this new fan-based entertainment system, along with university departments to facilitate the product from script to screen," Athletic Marketing Coordinator Luke Sayers said.

Ohio University students play a leading role in making the video wall experience possible, filling roles as video camera operators, graphics producers, technical directors and replay-effect producers.

"The equipment we're using is the same as used by other major sports venues across the country. This experiences offers the hands-on, active learning experience that brings to life what I learn in the classroom and lab and gives me the edge that employers seek," said student Stephanie Miller of Massillon, Ohio.

Tickets are available for Thursday's "Communiversity Day" game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. and includes a fireworks display after the contest. For more information, call (740) 593-1300 or 1-800-575-2287.
