It is commonly known that an educated consumer makes the best choices. A team of 21 volunteers wants to help Ohio University employees become more educated and proactive about their health care.
The volunteers, led by Project Coordinator Yin Wei, have designed a computer-based medical reference for patients. The reference is intended to provide basic medical information for patients to gain understanding of their own health concerns and issues. This will better equip them to describe their illnesses to their doctors and enable them to follow the doctor's instructions.
The system is still in the design stages, and the team is asking for your help to refine and improve it. All Ohio University employees are invited to stop by the Health Science Department on the third floor of Alden Library to try out the computerized reference and to complete a survey.
The designers want to make the system as simple to use as possible. Patients can find detailed information by typing in a specific question and clicking a button. The system was designed to be accommodating to people who do not regularly use computers. The volunteers plan to install the system at the Athens Public Library.
