The Fairfield County Chapter of the Ohio University Alumni Association recently committed to creating a $15,000 endowment to provide scholarships for area students to attend Ohio University-Lancaster.
Chapter members decided to provide scholarships for Lancaster Campus students because much of the chapter's membership base is from that area. "We have an appreciation for what Ohio University gave to us," said Chapter Treasurer John Baughman. "We'd like to foster that opportunity for others."
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must live in Fairfield County or be the child or grandchild of a Fairfield County chapter member. They also must demonstrate financial need, have at least a 2.5 grade point average and be in the top 25 percent of their high school class.
"The Fairfield County Chapter is one of our strongest, and its link with the Lancaster Campus is extremely important," said Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations Ralph Amos. "We are very excited by the fact that the chapter's commitment to the University and the Fairfield County community will provide scholarship opportunities for area students."
The endowment will benefit Ohio University's Bicentennial Campaign, which has surpassed the $145 million mark on its way toward raising more than $200 million by 2004, when the University will celebrate its 200th anniversary. The campaign will provide money for scholarships, technological enhancements, innovative programs and selected capital improvements.
