Rita Bullock, residential custodial services, is this year's recipient of the Gladys R. Medley Partners in Education Award. The award acknowledges relationships with students that educate for interdependence and understanding, honors initiative and innovation in improving residents' living conditions and commends superior efforts in working with Residence Life staff in solving common problems. Instituted in 1994 by South Green Residence Life, the award was named for the late Gladys R. Medley, a custodian from 1967-1986.
Bullock, who currently works in the Front Four Complex on the South Green, has worked for Ohio University for 12 years. According to Martha Roberts, building services manager for South Green residential custodial services, almost every student in Pickering Hall wrote a paragraph nominating Bullock for the award.
"Some of the comments were hilarious and others were very touching. You can tell the students think Rita is absolutely wonderful," Roberts said.
Comments received about Bullock read: "Rita rocks. She has a great sense of humor when dealing with college students each day. She always has a smile, even at 9 a.m." "Rita is one of the nicest and friendliest people I know. She stops to say hello no matter how busy she is and she always gets the job done." "Rita's skills puts her way beyond the qualifications for this award. She is a great example of what a worker in her position should be."
Bullock received the award during the annual luncheon hosted by South Green Residence Life to recognize the Green's residence hall housekeepers. "I was surprised when my name was called," Bullock said. "But, I am very touched and pleased."
