Ohio University will host its first-ever surplus auto auction at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at 751 W. Union St. (Route 56), which is across from the Verizon Telephone building. Approximately 80 cars, vans and trucks will be sold at the public auction.
"This auction is the first of its kind at Ohio University, so I'm very excited," said Ohio University Director of Property Management and Moving Services Gary Dicken. "This sale is part of the University's cost cutting measures, so reducing the amount of vehicles will save the University thousands of dollars in operating and insurance costs."
The vehicles can be inspected any time prior to the auction and all purchases must be paid for with cash, check or credit card the day of the sale. Vehicles not sold will be available for bid at the University's surplus auction on Saturday, June 28, at The Ridges.
All of the vehicles were donated to the auction by University departments. About 80 percent of the proceeds from each sale will be returned to the department that donated the vehicle, which will create one-time money.
