OhioLINK recently announced a licensing agreement with Ebsco Publishing for a suite of several electronic journal databases. Primary among the new sources for Ohio libraries are Academic Search Premier, Newspaper Source and Business Source Premier.
Ebsco was chosen because librarians statewide determined its products provide indexing for more periodical and newspaper titles, including a larger number of academic oriented and peer-reviewed journals, than currently available. The new article databases also provide more full-text articles and extended years of older volumes.
OhioLINK is a consortium of Ohio's college and university libraries and the State Library of Ohio, which serves 500,000 patrons at 80 institutions.
Several other databases are also included in the Ebsco package. These expand current electronic resources in the fields of computer science, consumer health, nursing and allied health, religion and philosophy, and vocational and career information.
Three familiar electronic databases for accessing magazine, journal and newspaper articles online will disappear as a result of adding the Ebsco products. Periodical Abstracts, Newspaper Abstracts and ABI/Inform Global, all currently purchased from ProQuest Information and Learning, will not be renewed by OhioLINK.
Ohio University Libraries' Web site will offer Academic Search Premier, Newspaper Source and Business Source Premier, and the other eight new Ebsco information tools beginning July 1.
OhioLINK is participating in this change in coordination with OPLIN (Ohio Public Library and Information Network) and INFOhio (the Information Network for Ohio Schools) in a cost-effective way to provide improved and broader information access.
