After the completion of a nationwide search, Ohio University Associate Professor of Aviation Juan Merkt has been named the new chair of Ohio University Russ College of Engineering and Technology's Department of Aviation. Merkt has served as interim chair since September 2001.
"I am very excited about this opportunity and feel very privileged to have the support of students, faculty, staff and other constituents as I embark on the mission of guiding the Department of Aviation into the 21st Century," he said.
Merkt obtained his doctorate in 1991 from Harvard University. He joined Ohio University's faculty in 2000 after serving six years as director of the Aeronautics Program at Jacksonville University in Florida.
