In just under two and a half hours Ohio University faculty, staff, students, departments and student organizations snapped up all of the available computer CPUs offered for sale May 1. The computers became available as a result of a computer upgrade to be implemented in the University's residence halls this summer.
"We knew the computers would generate a lot of interest," said Sherwood Wilson, associate vice president of administration for Facilities and Auxiliaries. "However, we never anticipated that the sale would be such a tremendous success and that the computers would be sold so quickly."
The first computers should be available in late June, with additional units becoming available throughout the summer as the upgrades are completed. Buyers will receive an e-mail (sent to their Oak accounts) notifying them of their computer's availability and pick-up instructions.
"This was a learning experience for all involved, and we will certainly improve and streamline the process before we do it again," said Assistant Director of Housing and Food Services Gordon Pettey. A similar sale is expected next year.
