International Travel Fund deadline is June 1

    By David Holben
    Contributing writer

The University International Council has an International Travel Fund to help support international travel for scholarly activity. The next application deadline for this fiscal year is June 1 for applicants interested in travel commencing between July 1 and Sept. 30.

Starting Fiscal Year 2002-2003 there will be five application dates. New guidelines for the International Travel Fund are as follows:

    • ITF support is available to Group I and II faculty.
    • The fund supports international research, paper presentation and other international scholarly activities that are approved and partially supported by the applicant's department, college or school.
    • Priority is given to those who have not received any support in recent years. Only one award can be received during a fiscal year.
    • The maximum amount of support is half of the round-trip plane ticket from the United States to the foreign country destination and no larger than $500. The committee will endeavor to award the greatest amount the applicant is eligible to receive for travel (half of air ticket, up to maximum of $500). Should the committee have an excessive number of applications, the amount may be decreased (e.g., $500 to $400) in order to support more faculty in their scholarly and creative endeavors.
    • Fully completed applications are due by 4 p.m. at Burson House.
    • Deadlines are firm.
    • If a deadline falls on a weekend, university-observed holiday, or a day that the University has been closed due to an emergency, fully completed applications will be due the next business day by 4 p.m. at Burson House.
    • The goal of the committee will be to provide notification within two weeks of the deadline date to the applicant.
    • A minimum of $3,000 will be available for each of the five funding cycles to insure that applicants later in the year also have opportunity for funding.
    • Travel must begin within the dates for the period applicants apply for.
    • Application deadlines for 2002-2003:
May 15--for travel starting between July 1 and Sept. 30.
Sept. 1--for travel starting between Oct. 1 and Nov. 15.
Oct. 15--for travel starting between Nov. 16 and Jan. 31.
Jan. 2--for travel starting between Feb. 1 and April 15.
March 15--for travel starting between April 16 and June 30.
