To honor and promote research at Ohio University in the field of education, the second annual College of Education Research Conference will take place Thursday, May 16, in McCracken Hall.
The conference will feature more than 40 research presentations from people in a variety of stages of University life, including faculty, alumni and students - graduate and undergraduate.
Session topics will include the impact and role of media throughout the educational system, technology's impact and teacher education.
Assistant Professor Valerie Conley believes the event is important and will be presenting at the conference.
"I think it is extremely valuable to have a venue for sharing with colleagues and students," Conley said. "This type of event really makes me feel like I am part of a learning college."
Conley's presentation, "Questions and ANSWERS," will showcase methods for accessing information from the National Center for Education Statistics.
"I think technology and online information resources are changing education and education research fundamentally by providing access to more information easier and faster," she said.
"I believe it is vital for researchers including graduate students and faculty members to be aware of these resources and to integrate them into our curriculum and research agendas," Conley added. "Literally millions of dollars are spent collecting these data and making them available. It is up to us to use them effectively."
A keynote address from Provost Stephen J. Kopp titled "The Connection Between Learning and Research" will kickoff the daylong event at 9:30 a.m. in McCracken 214. The rest of the day's schedule follows:
