ATHENS, Ohio (July 16, 2004) -- The Twentieth Annual Scientific Symposium of the Ohio River Basin Consortium for Research and Education (ORBCRE) will be hosted by Ohio University, Aug. 18-20.
The theme for the symposium is, "A Beautiful River?: Equilibrium and Protection of Water Resources in the Ohio River Basin." Sessions for the symposium will cover a wide range of topics including historical perspectives; rivers, streams, and channels; engineering and water uses; water quality and quantity; watershed management and basin development; resource and infrastructure protection and ecosystem stewardship.
This year marks the 20th anniversary for the ORBCRE and a special session will be dedicated for the anniversary celebration. The symposium also will include exhibitions from related companies and government agencies.
Preconference activities include a field trip to one of the 19 locks and dams and the AEP-operated hydropower plant in the Ohio River or a workshop on geographical information systems.
