- Lazaroff Lecture and Seminar announced
- The Department of History announces the Lazaroff Lecture to be held April 25, 7:30 p.m. at 235 Morton Hall. The lecture, "History of the Murder of Jedwabne Jews on July 10, 1941, and its Reception in Poland," will be given by Jan T. Gross, Department of Politics, New York University. Gross will also present the Lazaroff Seminar, April 26, 10 to 11 a.m., Room 334, Baker Center.
- Gross' lecture and seminar will discuss his recent book, "Neighbors: The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland," and the controversy it provoked. Several copies of his book should be available for purchase at Little Professor. If you have any questions about the lecture or the seminar, please contact Ann Fidler (fidler@ohio.edu or 593-4352).
- Tony Judt, Director of the Remarque Institute wrote of Gross' book: "It is a truly path-breaking book, the work of a master historian. Jan Gross has a shattering tale to tell, and he tells it with consummate skill and control. This book has already had dramatic repercussions in Poland, where it has single-handedly pried open a closed and painful chapter in that nation's recent past. But the work is not only about Poland. It is a moving and provocative rumination upon the most important ethical issue of our age. No one who has studied or lived through the twentieth century can afford to ignore it."
- Both the lecture and the seminar are free and open to the public.
- Lawrence Grossberg to speak May 2
- The School of Interpersonal Communication will sponsor a lecture by Lawrence Grossberg, Morris Davis Professor of Communication and Cultural Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The lecture, "Hegemony and the Third American Revolution" will be May 2 at 4 p.m. in Central Classroom 310.
