The Department of Social Work will hold a field fair on Thursday, April 10, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Baker University Center Ballroom. Following this event is an open house that will be held at Morton Hall, room 416.
The fair is open to all students, staff, faculty and community members interested in social work. It allows future social workers to meet with a variety of agencies that provide field practicums. These provide students with experience, under supervision, in a local human service agency. Practicums are required of all undergraduates in their final year at Ohio University. They are available in many settings, including child welfare agencies, mental health centers, residential treatment programs, correctional facilities and senior centers.
This event seeks to present the dynamic and challenging aspects of social work, whose traditional mission has been to help the disadvantaged -- those who have been excluded from participation in the ideal of a just and equitable society. The contemporary social worker also assists people from all walks of life with all kinds of problems in all kinds of settings -- rich and poor, black and white, young and old, in hospitals, in clinics or in the workplace.
