Ohio University Communications and Marketing staff members Mary Dillon and Mark Krumel, using their own time and resources, went the extra mile toward community service. They developed a proposal for a creative fund-raising brochure for Athens County Habitat for Humanity that was awarded a $5,000 grant by Sappi Limited's "Ideas That Matter" program. Sappi is the world's largest producer of coated woodfree paper.
The award-winning concept, "Building Homes, Building Hope," was designed to spotlight the ways a donation to Habitat impacts the lives of others. Dillon and Krumel have worked with Habitat for Humanity in the past. Dillon serves on the communication committee and Krumel designed last year's brochure.
"The grant money allows the county affiliate of Habitat to have especially unique fund-raising material. Further, by sparing the organization the cost of producing the brochures, profits from this endeavor can go directly toward its mission of providing quality housing for area families," said Athens County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Dudley Mullins.
Of 200 North American entries, only 25 were awarded the Sappi grants. The program invites graphic designers from Europe, North America and Southern Africa to donate their time to create printed communication campaigns for causes they want to support.
