Library announces information competency teaching grants

Ohio University faculty members and librarians have until April 30 to team up and submit proposals for the Faculty Librarian Information Competency Grant. This is the FLIC program's third year of providing grant money in support of integrating information-gathering into coursework.

FLIC Grants encourage collaboration between faculty members and librarians in providing enriched experiences in finding and evaluating of information to students. The FLIC Grants Program awards the selected faculty-librarian teams up to $2,000 ($1,000 per partner). All teaching faculty members at all campuses of Ohio University are eligible for the grants.

For more on information competency and the FLIC program, a description of the "Basic 8" Information Competency Skills can be found online at www.library.ohiou.edu/libinfo/depts/refdept/bi/flic.htm. Andrew Stuart and Sherri Saines, reference librarians at Alden Library, are project consultants and can provide proposal guidelines.

The FLIC grants have been used in the past for these classes: TCOM 367: World Media Systems; BIOS 220: Conservation and Biodiversity; PESS 202, Introduction to Physical Education/Teacher Education; EDRE 793: Field Research for Developing Countries.

A selection committee composed of faculty members, librarians and administrators will review proposals and select those to receive funding. The awards will be announced May 28.
