Free concert incorporates electronic sequencers

Cynthia Krenzel DoggettWhen two musicians, one who plays saxophone and one who plays clarinet, desired to work together but found few opportunities to do so, they simply created their own with the help of an Ohio University Zanesville Campus instructor. The resulting piece, titled "Mad Rush to the End," will be performed in concert on Thursday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium.

Cynthia and Thomas Krenzel Doggett asked composer Charles Savage, adjunct instructor of music, to write a piece for clarinet and tenor saxophone. The success of this duet motivated Savage to write a second piece for the Krenzel Doggetts, and has inspired them to commission works for clarinet and saxophone from additional composers.

Thomas Krenzel DoggettIn addition to alto and tenor saxophone, Thomas, a former Ohio University Zanesville Campus instructor, will also be performing on flute, electronics and keyboards, providing an intriguing blend of music. Philip Amalong will accompany the Krenzel Doggetts on piano.

The Ohio University Zanesville Campus concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Savage at (740) 588-1524 (dial 822-1524 from the Athens campus) or at savagec@ohio.edu.
