ATHENS, Ohio (May 19, 2004) -- The 1st Kyle P. Luginbuhl Memorial Golf Scramble, Hog Roast and Auction will held on Saturday, June 26, at Golf at Sugar Creek, Lima, Ohio. Proceeds from the event will benefit a scholarship fund that will annually support a Bluffton or area high school or college student interested in traveling abroad as an exchange student.
The Bluffton-Pandora Rotary Club, with assistance from the Lima Rotary, will award the scholarship.
The scramble, hog roast and auction are designed to create an enjoyable and lighthearted atmosphere for all participants. In keeping with that spirit, this event is not a contest; rather it is an opportunity for a relaxing and entertaining day of golf, fun and fellowship.
Registration forms are available at various Bluffton businesses and restaurants. Hog Roast tickets can be purchased at Greg’s Pharmacy in Bluffton, Ohio. Kyle P. Luginbuhl was a 2001 Bluffton High School graduate who participated in baseball, basketball and football while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He was on the homecoming court his senior year and was elected to give his class graduation speech. During Kyle’s junior year, he traveled abroad as a Rotary International Exchange student in Eindhoven, Netherland. Kyle attended Ohio University where he was an honor student and was majoring in aviation engineering. Kyle obtained his private pilot’s license in record time and dreamed of becoming a commercial pilot. His sophomore year at Ohio University he studied abroad in Adelaide, Australia.
He died January 1 after falling from a balcony in Athens.
A basket has been placed at the Office of the Dean of Students, 202 Baker University Center on the Ohio University campus. Interested students and faculty are welcome to donate Ohio University items for the basket by June 11. The "Ohio University" basket will be auctioned at the fundraising event on Saturday, June 26.
