ATHENS, Ohio (May 12, 2004) -- The 2004 Ohio University Bicentennial festivities continue with the upcoming Black Alumni Reunion Weekend!
Hundreds of black Ohio alumni are traveling across the country to return to Athens for this special weekend. Black Alumni Reunion weekend gives black alumni a unique chance to relive fun memories and reconnect with the people who made their Ohio experience what it was. The returning alumni span the decades, with alumni from 1962 to 2003.
The weekend gets kicked off on Friday, May 21, with a Faculty and Administrator Reception followed by the Black Alumni Reunion Soul Food BBQ. The entire family is invited to grill out and enjoy the musical styling of Columbus Ohio’s Urban Jazz Coalition. Also on Friday evening, Raymond Tymas-Jones and Ed Payne will be performing at 8 p.m. in the School of Music.
There are numerous events for alumni to attend Saturday, May 22, beginning with a golf scramble sponsored by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Campus tours will be offered throughout the day to show Ohio alumni all of the changes campus has made over the years. Saturday evening The Black Student Cultural Programming Board presents The Bicentennial Black Reunion Concert, a performance by Atlantic Records Recording Artist Twista with special guest Floetry at 8 p.m. in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are on sale for $25 at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium box office by calling 593-1780 or at http://www.ohiotickets.musictoday.com.
Black Alumni Reunion Weekend only occurs every three years, but this year is sure to be the best yet since it falls during Ohio University’s Bicentennial. For more information, including a complete schedule of events, please visit http://www.ohiou.edu/reunion/bar/.
