ATHENS, Ohio (April 20, 2004) -- The Athena Cinemas Company recently made grants of $1,000 each to the six Athens County school districts to support their arts programs.
"Since its renovation two years ago, the focus of the Athena Theater has been to best benefit residents of the Athens and regional community, and these grants continue that approach. The theater has been a successful enterprise, and it is our great pleasure to share this success with the area," said Michael Sostarich, vice president for Student Affairs at Ohio University and a member of The Athena Cinemas Company, which manages the theater.
"We are pleased to receive this grant. Our programs can always use a little help," Athens City Schools Superintendent Carl Martin said.
Alexander Local Schools Superintendent Robert Bray said, "This is a wonderful gift for our arts programs, and I'm sure it will be spent in a way that will be most beneficial to our students."
Athens County school districts receiving the grants include Athens City Schools, Federal Hocking Local Schools, Tri County Vocational School, Alexander Local Schools, Nelsonville-York Schools and Trimble Local School District.
