A current overload caused a large portion of Ohio University's Athens campus to lose power on Wednesday afternoon.
The power outage affected about 20 buildings on the main campus, the Ohio University Inn and all of the buildings at The Ridges.
The outage occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. and power was restored to the main campus buildings around 4:30 p.m. The Ridges and the Ohio University Inn had their power restored by 6:08 p.m.
Mike Gebeke, executive director of facilities management, said the current overload happened in an underground electrical line leading to the Ohio University Inn. He said the overload caused the activation of four protective switches in the high voltage service on campus.
Gebeke said his staff is looking into the reason for the overload.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and seek solutions to the power outage problem on campus," Gebeke said.
