NBC "Today Show" intern Ryan Lytle, a fourth-year Scripps College of Communication student, got more than he bargained for on his last day at work -- he got to chest-bump his boss, Matt Lauer, one of the show's anchors.
Lauer, an OHIO alumnus, was celebrating the university's victory over Georgetown University in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The win by the 14th-seeded Bobcats was surprising because the heavily favored Hoyas were the region's third-seed.
Lauer jokingly asked, "Which school was that that beat Georgetown?"
Sitting at the anchor desk next to Lauer and his co-host Meredith Vieira, Lauer introduced Lytle, who has spent the winter quarter as an intern with the morning news and entertainment program.
Tina Stewart, alumni and internship coordinator at Scripps, is happy for Lytle's experience and exposure.
"I am so excited that I'm screaming for joy along with others from the dean's office! What a wonderful way for him to end his winter quarter internship with the 'Today Show,'" she said. "For me, this is about alumni, like Matt Lauer, who continue to support our students by offering these exclusive internship opportunities and all of us getting swept up in the thrill of our hard work and successes together!"
Full footage of Lauer and Lytle's celebration is here*, on the MSNBC Web site.
