From staff reports
Keep a weather eye open because a new name in Ohio University news will be coming to the university’s front door this April, Ohio University Compass.
With the new name comes a new format and design. Ohio University Compass will provide the OHIO community news, announcements and feature stories in a clear and pleasing configuration that reflects the wishes and comments readers expressed in a survey taken last spring.
It’s clear that Outlook has been a staple for readers interested in Ohio University news. Results of the survey indicated that 70 percent of readers use Outlook as their primary source for OHIO news.
Distribution of Outlook increased in January 2010, when students began receiving Outlook. This new audience has been further engaged through University Communication and Marketing’s embrace of social networking. As of March 11, Ohio University currently has 14,358 fans on Facebook and 6,138 followers on Twitter, numbers that have more than doubled since July 2009.
Both social networking Web sites offer links to Outlook stories and news from around the university, pushing more traffic to OHIO pages.
With that in mind, Ohio University Compass aims to be more than a source for news about the OHIO community; it aims to also reflect the OHIO community.
