Celebrating the sakura (cherry blossoms)
Mar 30, 2010
By Andie Walla
The blooming cherry trees that line Shafer Street on the Ohio University campus are a welcome herald of spring, bringing joy to all who see them. A gift from Chubu University in Japan, the trees also are a reminder of the special relationship the two universities hold.
This year, the cherry trees in TailGreat Park will be illuminated from 8 to 10 p.m. beginning March 31. The nightly lighting will take place for two weeks or until the blossoms end, whichever comes first.
The Center for International Studies is sponsoring the lights this year.
