A new Ohio University Homecoming Steering Committee will coordinate all future Homecoming activities. Its duties will include planning the homecoming parade and pep rally, and creating a Bobcat Court.
The committee comprises 12 student positions selected from an application and interview process and ad-hoc representatives from University Facilities, Ohio University Police Department, Event Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, Alumni Association, University Communications and Marketing, Transportation Services and the Campus Involvement Center.
Student committee positions include director, finance chair, internal and external communication chairs, and planning chairs or co-chairs, a service coordinator and one to four at-large members. The committee also will seek volunteers to help with the Homecoming events.
Anne Lombard, assistant to the vice president for student affairs for special projects, said the goal of the new committee is to centralize the planning efforts for Homecoming.
“We hope the implementation of the Homecoming Steering committee will lead to a broader array of events that attract more participation and attendance than in previous years,” Lombard said. “The planning of Homecoming has traditionally been a decentralized process and the creation of this new committee will improve planning and coordination.”
All students are encouraged to fill out a committee application form found at www.ohio.edu/students. Applications are due at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in the Office of the Dean of Students located in Baker University Center 345.
The dates for Homecoming 2010 will be announced later this quarter. For more information, contact Anne Lombard at 740-593-4024 or lombard@ohio.edu.
