Film students present screening of original works

From staff reports
Film graduate student Anja Jovanovic has spent many long nights in the editing room preparing for this weekend.
Jovanovic will be one of seven students presenting their works at the School of Film Second-year Screening at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Baker University Center Theatre. Admission is free.
"With this screening, I will finalize a very long process that included a lot of people," Jovanovic said. "It started more than a year ago and covered so many different phases of the production process, from writing drafts and drafts of scripts, auditions, shooting and acting rehearsals; to spending months in the editing room. It's hard to explain how much is invested in one short student film."
The short films, completed during the students' second year of study in the School of Film, can range from nine to 40 minutes. Jovanovic described her film "Joy" as a story about "growing up by getting hurt."
"Screenings are about exposure as well," Jovanovic said. "Students have to open that door that they've been keeping tightly shut and release their deepest intimacy with their films -- cut the umbilical cord, if you will. It is a very special moment."
