The Ohio University community is mourning the loss of Andrea Robinson, who passed away at a Columbus hospital Wednesday of complications from bacterial meningitis. A Cleveland Heights native, Robinson, 18, was a freshman in University College.
Robinson's funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church, 2175 Coventry Road, Cleveland, Ohio, 44118. The viewing hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Schulte & Mahon-Murphy Funeral Home, 5252 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, Ohio, 44124.
"Andrea was always very happy and cheery and liked to have fun, but took her academics very seriously," said graduate student John Yurkschatt, Robinson's learning community instructor fall quarter. "She made some really close friends. We had an intramural volleyball team. She wasn't on the team, but she would show up to the practices and have fun."
Yurkschatt said Robinson was passionate about animals and the two talked often of her plans to become a veterinarian.
"On behalf of Ohio University, we express our deepest condolences to Andrea's family and friends during this difficult time," said Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi.
The university is flying a green OHIO flag in front of Cutler Hall in Robinson's honor.
Students are reminded they can call Counseling and Psychological Services 24 hours a day/seven days a week at 740-593-1616 to speak with a counselor. Walk-in counseling services are available at Hudson Health Center from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
