Recognitions

SANDRA SLEIGHT-BRENNAN, telecommunications, was one of four radio producers chosen by Interworld Radio of London, England, to contribute to their 12-part feature series "Mountain Lives." The series looks at people living in different mountain ranges around the world and the environmental challenges they face. "Mountain Lives" featured stories about mountain communities in the Himalayas, the highlands of Lesotho, Andes, and the Appalachians. SLEIGHT-BRENNAN also contributed a print article on mountaintop removal practices in West Virginia.

ALAN MIDDLETON, business management technology, received the Finance Distinguished Paper Award by the Academy of Finance for his paper "Testing the Theory Underlying the Dogs of the Dow Investment Strategy." MIDDLETON will present this paper in March 2003 at the Annual Meeting of the Midwest Business Administration Association in Chicago.

JOE MARTIN retired on Feb. 7, 2003 after 37 years in the engineering department of the Telecommunications Center. MARTIN was honored with a luncheon to wish him well.

JOE BOVA, professor of art, retired from the School of Art. BOVA is a ceramic artist and former director of the Ohio University Art Gallery.

GREG LESTER is the new College Adjustment Program (CAP) coordinator. CAP is a program sponsored by the Academic Advancement Center that provides free tutoring and in-depth academic advising to qualified students. As CAP coordinator, LESTER will be responsible for advising a portion of the program's 275 undergraduate students, supervising undergraduate Peer Advisors, recruiting and selecting CAP participants, and providing support for CAP students on probation. Prior to coming to Ohio University, LESTER worked as a Student Support Services counselor in the University College at Louisiana State University.

JENNIFER HINTON, recreation and sport sciences, and Betsy Kennedy, Old Dominion University, co-coordinated the Higher Education Institute at the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) Annual Conference in Keystone, Colo. in September 2002. The full-day institute focused on the current state of therapeutic recreation internships across the country and a plan for internship improvement.

BROOKE HALLOWELL, hearing, speech and language sciences, and John Enderle co-edited "National Science Foundation 2000 Engineering Senior Design Projects to Aid Persons with Disabilities," published by the Creative Learning Press, Mansfield Center, Conn., 2002.

LI XU, hearing, speech and language sciences, John Middlebrookes, Shigeto Furukawa and Brian Mickey co-wrote "Location Signaling by Cortical Neurons," a chapter in "Integrative Functions in the Mammalian Auditory Pathway," published by Springer-Verlag, New York, N.Y., 2002.
