New tool helps alumni stay in touch

By Sean Hughes

Do you remember that great student in your class who participated so much or maybe the PACE student who did outstanding work in your office?

Most faculty and staff can tell you stories about the wonderful experiences they have had with students who are now alumni. We all also know how beneficial the support of Ohio University's alumni is to the institution.

Now, you have a chance to engage the alumni whom all of you have influenced in some way. Engaged alumni are more likely to be supportive of the University.

The Ohio University Alumni Association (OUAA) receives multiple requests from alumni everyday who are looking for college friends. The Association has developed another tool to keep them connected through its new online directory.

"We want our alumni to be in control of their information, of making sure that they can be contacted by people they want to hear from and of getting the information that they want from their alma mater," said Mike Worley, director of alumni outreach and engagement. "The directory also provides registered users the opportunity to quickly find other members who indicated they want their information to be seen."

Users of the online directory must be registered which prevents the general public from accessing their information.

Getting those alumni in which you stay in contact to register with the directory not only allows them to find and communicate with other Bobcats, but it also will help the institution to provide beneficial resources such as lifelong learning opportunities to these alumni.

Include these simple steps in the next e-mail to your alumni friends:

  • Go to your customized eAlumni Portal Home Page (www.ealumni.ohiou.edu) and click on "Online Directory" and then "New User."

  • On the "New User" page, enter your last name and your ten-digit alumni identification number from the address label on the back of a recent issue of Ohio Today. If you can't find your alumni identification number, contact your Alumni Association via email at alumni.online@ohio.edu to request it. Include your current name, your full name at graduation, your class year and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (in the event that you do not have a Social Security number or we do not have your Social Security number, we will ask that you give us your birth date instead) to get a quick reply with your alumni ID number.

  • Now, create a username and password and update your profile.
