ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 24, 2004) -- Ohio native and 'Last Comic Standing' finalist Tess will be performing her stand-up comedy on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The show is sponsored by University Program Council (UPC), and begins at 7 p.m.
The youngest of four children, Tess grew up watching Jerry Lewis movies, but didn't define her own brand of comedy until after her marriage suddenly became a mistake. This Sandusky, Ohio, native discovered her gift for comedy in high school where she was voted both Class President and Class Clown.
After graduation, Tess took only her first name and moved to Oakland where she got married for ninety days. During that rocky period, she unearthed the foundation of a comedy career. The ability to laugh at divorce and the absurdities of dating have given her a sense of strength and a ton of material.
Tess has shared her insight at the 2001 UW Comedy Arts Festival, on NBC's "Late Friday," "The Jamie Foxx Show," BET's "Comic View," the Def Jam Comedy Tour and on Brian McKnight's "Back at One" tour. She wants to make it clear voluptuous women will one day inherit the earth.
"Tess has gained a great deal of popularity through her appearance on NBC's 'Last Comic Standing,'" said Natalie Pariano, UPC special events co-chair. "We know she will provide for a great and entertaining performance on Saturday."
Tickets for the show are $2 for students and $3 general admission, and may be purchased from noon to 5 p.m. at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium box office. Tickets may also be purchased by calling the box office at (740) 593-1780.
