ATHENS, Ohio -- The Robert H. Freeman Chair in Business has been established at the Ohio University College of Business through a $1 million gift from Frances G. Shoolroy, widow of the late Mr. Freeman, ABC '35.
When establishing the endowed chair, Mrs. Shoolroy said, "This Chair is established in memory of Robert H. Freeman, an Ohio University alumnus and faithful advocate who dedicated his life to helping others. In so doing, he significantly improved in diverse ways the lives of countless people with whom he interacted, never seeking thanks or credit."
College of Business Dean Glenn Corlett expressed his deep appreciation for the significant gift and noted that, "this endowed chair is a prestigious academic distinction that allows the college to recruit outstanding professors capable of attracting top students and young faculty."
To date, almost $31 million has been committed to the College of Business as part of the Ohio University Bicentennial Campaign, which has raised more than $190 million towards its goal of $200 million.
The College of Business goal is more than was raised by the college in the University's first two major campaigns – the 1804 Fund and the Third Century Campaign – combined! In fact, more than 5,743 individuals have made a commitment to this campaign. The College of Business development efforts will provide money for scholarships, endowed professorships, named chairs, technological enhancements and innovative programs.
