Patient care services foundation for UOMC
By Susan Green
In 1977, the University Osteopathic Medical Center (UOMC), in partnership with the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Ohio University Osteopathic Medicine Center Inc. (MCI), launched patient care services with three goals in mind: to offer exceptional medical care for the community, to provide a clinical teaching laboratory for medical students and to afford practice opportunities for faculty members.
Today, UOMC is a leading provider of ambulatory health-care services in Southeastern Ohio with more than 116,000 patient visits recorded last year. This multi-specialty group practice consists of a central clinic in Parks Hall on Ohio University's West Green in Athens, Ohio, and satellite clinics in four regional locations. Satellite clinics are located at 499 Richland Ave. (UOMC Allergy/ENT); in the O'Bleness Memorial Hospital Medical Building; Coolville Health Care Center in Coolville; and at 294 Harper St. in Nelsonville. More than 50 faculty physicians from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine practice at UOMC in a variety of specialties. Additionally, the center offers a comprehensive array of diagnostic services and provides counseling services, audiology and acute care.
UOMC provided more than $4 million in uncompensated care to residents of Southeastern Ohio last year.
