Eight new members have joined The Ohio University Foundation Board of Trustees.
The newly elected trustees are Patricia A. Ackerman of Richmond Heights, Ohio; McClellan A. Dubois of Hemdon, Va.; Alex Garcia of Highland Heights, Ohio; Gary G. Nakamoto of Great Falls, Va. I. Robert Rudy of Oakland, Md. Janice L. Scites of Basking Ridge, N.J.; Jeffrey A. Stanley of Solon, Ohio; and Larry Gates of Chillicothe, Ohio. All of the new members are alumni, except Gates.
As the university's fundraising arm, the foundation is responsible for raising, investing and disbursing funds in support of Ohio University's educational mission. Today, the foundation raises more than $20 million annually from more than 25,000 donors.
"The Ohio University Foundation welcomes our eight newest members," said Howard R. Lipman, vice president for University Advancement and president & CEO of The Ohio University Foundation. "The foundation board is a diverse group of alumni and friends who work as an active partner in the university's mission of education, research, and service.
Ackerman, who earned a bachelor's degree in 1966 from Ohio University, is executive director of the Chalkdust Education Foundation. She is a retired public school educator who served as a teacher, principal and K-12 curriculum administrator. Ackerman also is president and CEO of Chalkdust Inc., a consultant firm serving education professionals.
Dubois, who earned his master's degree from Ohio University in 1971, currently serves as the vice president of operational technologies and solutions for Raytheon Co.
Garcia received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1969. Before his retirement in April 2008, he spent 38 years with several manufacturing companies, serving in management and high-level leadership positions.
Nakamoto, who received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1988, is currently chairman for Base Technologies Inc., a professional services firm that specializes in information technology, outsourcing and consulting.
Rudy is owner of I.R. Rudy's Inc., which does business as Rudy's at Wisp, a ski and sport shop, and Rudy's Clothing in Oakland, Md. He received his bachelor's degree in 1974 from Ohio University.
Scites is currently CEO of MSO Inc., a property and casualty rating and services bureau based in New Jersey. She received her bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1971.
Stanley, who received a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Ohio University in 1982, has been a member of the South Pointe Medical Staff since June 1988. He is serving a second term as co-chief of staff with South Pointe Hospital.
Gates is currently serving as chairman of the Ohio University-Chillicothe Regional Coordinating Council.
