Ever wonder what happens to Homecoming floats after the parade? Once destined for the landfill, OHIO's Homecoming floats are deconstructed immediately following the parade with the materials reused and recycled whenever possible.
This initiative is the result of an Ohio University policy designed to prevent waste from entering the landfill and generate cost-savings for the university by avoiding shipping charges on the waste. Recycling and Refuse Manager Ed Newman hopes Ohio University's example inspires other institutions across the country to do the same.
