The Athens Police Department issued a crime alert on Wednesday after an armed man robbed the Cold Stone Creamery on Court Street earlier in the day.
According to the report, a man entered the ice cream store at approximately 10:40 a.m. and demanded money from an employee while brandishing a gun. After he received the money, the suspect walked through the alley at the rear of the Athens City Building holding a small, burlap sack containing the stolen money.
The employee described the suspect as an approximately 6-foot-tall, dark-complexioned white male (possibly of Latino descent) with dark eyes, dark goatee and a shaved head. He was wearing a T-shirt and baggy gray sweatpants.
Anyone with additional information about this incident should call Crime Solvers Anonymous at 740-594-3331. There is a $2,000 cash reward for information that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the suspect. The reward increases to $4,000 if the informant is willing to testify in court against the suspect.
