Bobcats get their green on! Weeklong Homecoming celebration draws thousands Sep 29, 2008 By Rick Fatica and Carrie Pratt
All of Athens turned "green" with pride this weekend as Ohio University celebrated Homecoming 2008 with fanfare, festivities and a football victory. With a theme of "Get Your Green On" to emphasize school spirit and environmental awareness, the weeklong observance drew thousands of alumni and students for an impressive array of activities. Events wrapped up over the weekend with a 51-31 Bobcat win over Virginia Military Institute.
"It was pretty special, I'll tell you that," said Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations Graham Stewart, who celebrated his first Homecoming as a Bobcat. Highlights of the weekend included Friday's annual Alumni Awards Gala and the parade, he said. "I've been on a number of college campuses, and I have not seen the type of energy I saw at the parade and a lot of the events Friday and Saturday. It's always nice to hear alumni talk about how Ohio University changed their lives in so many important ways. They love this place."
