Volunteers needed for commencement ceremonies

May 22, 2009

The Ohio University commencement ceremonies are quickly approaching and University Events would like your assistance with this important Ohio University event. Volunteers are a key element in making commencement successful and memorable for our graduates, their families and friends.

Please consider assisting with this important Ohio University function. Click here to download the provided form to indicate which ceremonies you are able to work and please return (via e-mail) to the Staff Assistant Supervisors no later than Wednesday, May 27, 2009. If you have any questions, please e-mail the Staff Assistant Supervisors or call 740-331-4885.

Commencement ceremony dates are as follows:

Friday, June 12th at 9:30 a.m. - Master's & Doctoral Graduates

Saturday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. - College of Business, College of Fine Arts, Regional Campuses, Russ College of Engineering & Technology, Scripps College of Communication, University College

Saturday, June 13th at 2 p.m. - College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education, College of Health & Human Services, Honors Tutorial College

Staff assistants are requested to arrive no later than 7:15 a.m. for the graduate and morning undergraduate ceremony and no later than 11:45 a.m. for the afternoon undergraduate ceremony.

Since Friday's ceremony falls during the workday, stipends will not be issued for working that ceremony. For anyone (administrative or classified) working the Saturday ceremonies, a stipend of $100 ($50 per ceremony) will be added to the next regular paycheck following commencement.

Due to the timeframe that commencement falls in relation to the end of the fiscal year we will approve the stipends the week prior to commencement based on the responses. Please be sure to sign in for your assigned shifts and make every effort to notify us of any changes in your availability to minimize any payroll complications. Please call 740-331-4885 with any questions or availability updates.

A confirmation e-mail with your assignment will be sent to you along with full details about the commencement orientation meeting, which will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, on the floor of the Convocation Center.

The department of University Events is now the single department of Baker University Center and University Events. All issues related to University Events, including commencement, should be directed to Sujit Chemburkar, executive director. For additional information or questions, contact Chemburkar at 740-593-4020 or chemburk@ohio.edu.
