Dependent-eligibility changes outlined

May 8, 2009

With the start of open enrollment, Ohio University employees will be able to make changes to their benefits. Employees should receive enrollment packets in their campus mailboxes this week. The deadline for open enrollment is Friday, May 15, according to University Human Resources.

Employees should carefully review the covered dependents listed on their enrollment form. In fall 2009, University Human Resources will conduct an eligibility audit of dependents covered under the university’s health insurance program, and ineligible dependents will be removed. An amnesty period is being held during open enrollment. Employees may remove ineligible dependents from coverage during this time. If you have questions regarding dependent eligibility, contact University Human Resources at 740-593-1639.

There are several changes to the benefits plan effective May 1 and July 1, 2009. To find out more information about the changes, click here.

Effective May 1, for example, domestic partner coverage has been extended to Opposite Sex Domestic Partners for medical, prescription drug, vision, dental insurance, and educational benefits. Previously, only same sex domestic partners were covered. In order to take advantage of the benefits, employees will need to completed domestic partner forms in addition to the benefits enrollment form. For more details visit www.ohio.edu/hr/benefits/improve1.cfm.

Eligibility for medical, prescription drug, and vision benefits has been extended to dependent children age 23, 24, and 25 who are full-time students for a cost of $50 per month. To take advantage of this extended benefit, employees must add their child to the benefits enrollment form as well as complete a student status form. For more details visit www.ohio.edu/hr/benefits/improve4.cfm.
