Regional tours spark CAN-do attitude [Multimedia] Jul 21, 2009 By Kevin Riddell
Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs hosted a three-day work session for members of the Central Appalachia Network (CAN), July 13 through 15. This tour of area businesses offered insight into the local landscape and a sampling of regional models of innovation.
CAN is part of the Kellogg Foundation's Rural People, Rural Policy initiative, a multi-year initiative designed to improve the lives of those living in small communities across the nation. The networks bring together diverse organizations for developing policies that positively impact small communities.
In addition to the Voinovich School, local organizations participating in CAN include Rural Action, WesBanco and the Ohio Appalachian Educators Institute. Each organization receives a $100,000 grant over five years to participate in the initiative.
