Ohio University faculty, staff, students and Athens area community members will come together Sunday, March 8, to observe International Women’s Day with an afternoon of presentations, performances and education.
The event, organized by the university’s Women’s Center, will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Baker University Center Ballroom.
Presentations are planned at 10- to 15-minute intervals throughout the afternoon and will feature song, dance and information sharing. Booths will showcase issues ranging from voting to research on women in Cambodia, and vendors also will participate.
“This event will showcase the past, present and future accomplishments of women,” Women’s Center Director Susanne Dietzel said.
International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s, when industrialization and population growth changed women’s roles in society. This is the first time the Women’s Center has observed the day.
Child care will be provided at no cost, and there is no fee to attend.
