The City of Athens and Athens Municipal Arts Commission are accepting proposals from artists interested in designing, creating and installing a piece of public art in conjunction with the redesign of the Richland Avenue-Ohio Route 682 intersection just south of the Ohio University campus.
Slated for construction in 2010, the $6.2 million redesign involves installation of a roundabout and resurfacing of the Richland Avenue bridge. The redesign had been discussed since 2000, but a June 2007 accident that claimed the life of an Ohio University graduate student solidified community support and moved the project to the forefront.
The deadline for proposal submission is 4 p.m. March 9 at City Hall, 8 E. Washington St., Athens.
Information on the Requests for Proposals can be found at www.ci.athens.oh.us/athens_press.cfm. Artists may contact Andrea Lewis at the Dairy Barn, 740-592-4981 or andrea@dairybarn.org, or Andy Stone at the Athens Street Department, 740-592-3343 or astone@ci.athens.oh.us, for more information.
