Sibs gear up for jam-packed weekend Lineup offers a little something for everyone Feb 5, 2009 By Katie Ronske and Kerry Kong
Ohio University senior Regina Dechellis is counting down the hours to her sister's arrival this Sibs Weekend.
She has cleaned her apartment, stocked up on her sib's favorite junk food and created a vibrant welcome poster for the door. The only decision she has left to make is whether to buy tickets for Saturday night's Brandy concert or plan to attend the OHIO hockey match-up against Illinois.
"There are so many things to do that she really gets a chance to live the life of a college student for a weekend," said Dechellis, an exercise physiology major. "And for someone in a high school, there is nothing better than living the college life."
Dechellis said this year's Sibs Weekend visit is special for her sister, who will be graduating from high school in May and heading to college in the fall.
"She is still unsure where she will go, but I told her that she has to pick a school that has Sibs Weekend so she can return the hospitality," Dechellis joked.
This year's Sibs Weekend lineup features basketball and hockey games, comedy shows and special events in Baker University Center and the Charles J. Ping Student Recreation Center.
"We want sibs to feel welcome here, to feel that they are part of our community, and we celebrate them and their roles with our students," said Anne Lombard, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of campus life.
Here is a preview of this weekend's events:
Sibs Fest will take place from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Baker University Center. Planned activities include karaoke, a salon offering manicures and pedicures, carnival games, Martie and Stewie crafts, a meet-in-greet with OHIO athletes and a Family Feud-themed game with prizes. Admission is free.
